Noise generated in swimming pools, regardless of their size, negatively affects the comfort of users, causing fatigue and impeding recreation. Excessively loud, highly acoustically reflective interiors can even make it impossible to understand the instructions of a lifeguard or trainer. However, this does not have to be the case, with acoustic adaptation done correctly.
A municipal swimming pool in Liege, Belgium, has been given a good new acoustic treatment. The strengths of two complementary products - Sonaspray® plaster and Soundblox® blocks - were combined in its space. Each is resistant to moisture and impact, although in areas within reach of users (e.g., walls up to a height of more than 2 meters) Soundblox® blocks will be less vulnerable to damage over years of use. The sheet metal ceilings and the upper parts of the walls are additionally covered with Sonaspray® plaster. All together work as an effective acoustic system to reduce the reverberation of a very large volume.
